MONTGOMERY – Gov. Kay Ivey set special election dates Tuesday for Alabama House District 12. The seat was held by Rep. Corey Harbison, who resigned April 15.

The special primary election will be July 15; the special primary runoff, if necessary, will be Aug. 12; and the special general election is Oct. 28.

The deadline for qualifying with major political parties is 5 p.m. May 13. The deadline for all independent candidates and/or minor parties is 5 p.m. July 15.

House District 12 includes portions of Cullman County.

“Representative Corey Harbison has been a pleasure to work with and served the people of District 12 well. I thank him for his continued service to our state,” said Ivey. “This special election is an important opportunity to help shape the future of your community – so, if you are in House District 12, make sure to get out and vote.”

Harbison (R-Good Hope), who announced his resignation last month, said he wants to be closer to his family and continue to work for the city of Good Hope.
