Brig. Gen. Jason Jefferis officially assumed command of the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command during a June 1 change of command ceremony at Redstone Arsenal.

The ceremony, held on the Army Materiel Command Parade Field, was hosted by Lt. Gen. Christopher Mohan, commanding general of the U.S. Army Materiel Command. During the event, Mohan transferred the USASAC colors from outgoing commander Brig. Gen. Allen Pepper to Jefferis, symbolizing the formal transfer of leadership and responsibility.

Jefferis takes command of an organization that manages one of the Army’s most significant international partnership missions. USASAC oversees security assistance programs and foreign military sales for the Army and currently manages a portfolio valued at approximately $327 billion involving more than 133 nations and 11 agencies.

Speaking during the ceremony, Jefferis said he was honored to join the command and recognized the importance of its mission in supporting allies and strengthening global partnerships.

“I am humbled to join a world-class team of experts that has spent decades mastering the intricate world of foreign military sales and security cooperation,” Jefferis said.

Drawing on his experience serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and other assignments around the world, Jefferis said he has witnessed firsthand the importance of ensuring allies receive the equipment and training they need.

“That experience gives me a profound awareness of the delicate balance of policy, diplomacy and logistics that you all master each and every day, where every decision carries significant weight for our nation and our partners,” he said.

Mohan praised both the USASAC workforce and Pepper’s leadership during a period of significant growth in foreign military sales.

According to Mohan, the command generated a record $42.8 billion in new foreign military sales business during 2024, the largest annual total in USASAC history.

Mohan also highlighted billions of dollars in modernization efforts for partner nations in Europe, the Indo-Pacific region and the Middle East during Pepper’s tenure.

“Allen, your leadership has been outstanding, and your influence will be felt for years to come,” Mohan said.

Pepper thanked the USASAC workforce, military and civilian leaders, and his family for their support during his command.

“I can assure you that it has been a tremendous blessing for me to have had the opportunity to command USASAC,” Pepper said, describing foreign military sales as a key component of U.S. foreign and defense policy.

Headquartered at Redstone Arsenal, USASAC serves as the lead organization for the Army Materiel Command Security Assistance Enterprise and manages programs designed to equip and support allied and partner nations around the world.
