Madison County Corn Festival returns Saturday with free roasted corn, local food and family fun

Fresh roasted sweet corn, local produce and family activities will take center stage Saturday as the Madison County Farmer’s Market hosts its annual Corn Festival.

The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 18 at the Madison County Farmer’s Market, 1022 Cook Ave. in Huntsville.

This year’s event is being held in partnership with The People’s Patch, Madison County’s community farm, which will roast and distribute free ears of freshly harvested, locally grown corn throughout the day.

“This is a great community event for families to come enjoy a welcoming environment while they shop and receive a taste of fresh, locally grown produce on us,” District 4 Commissioner Phil Vandiver said. “Madison County’s roots run deep in agriculture, and we remain committed to supporting our farmers and strengthening their connection with the community.”

In addition to free roasted corn, visitors will find local vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, honey, baked goods and pastries. The festival will also feature live music, food trucks and a “corny” coloring corner for children.

The Madison County Farmer’s Market traces its history back more than 200 years, making it the oldest farmers market in Alabama.

The People’s Patch, overseen by District 6 Commissioner Violet Edwards, is one of the county’s newest agricultural initiatives. The community farm was established to promote agricultural education while helping address food insecurity.

“We want people to come see their neighbors and leave the festival with a new appreciation for locally grown produce,” Edwards said. “It is also a time to thank the county farmers.”

County officials said the annual festival celebrates Madison County’s agricultural heritage while encouraging residents to support local farmers during the peak summer growing season.
