Positive change: Madison County installs electric vehicle charging stations

HUNTSVILLE – Along with paying for their car tags, motorists will now be able to get their vehicles recharged at the Madison County Service Center.

The county announced that two new electric vehicle charging stations are open for public use at the center on North Memorial Parkway in Huntsville.

The Level 2 ChargePoint chargers offer four charging ports and will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding county holidays. The fee is 25 cents per kwh and will provide approximately 25 miles of range per one hour of charging.

The chargers were purchased through a grant funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant (ECBG) program, whose focus is to cut carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.

“We are thankful for the ECBG program and the grant that has allowed us to work towards a more energy efficient environment,” said County Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon. “We are always looking to make a positive change in the community, and these new charging stations are an exciting improvement that will not only benefit our residents, but also our environment.”
