Mancuso launches campaign as ‘Trump Independent’ for HD7 after removal from GOP ballot

Declaring himself a “Trump Independent,” Angelo “Doc” Mancuso officially launched his independent campaign for Alabama State House District 7.

The former lawmaker was removed from the Republican primary ballot by the Alabama Republican Executive Committee in February.

Mancuso is challenging incumbent Rep. Ernie Yarbrough (R-Trinity) who was first elected to the Alabama house in 2022.

Mancuso said the decision by party leadership denied voters in District 7 the opportunity to choose their candidate in the Republican primary and left many conservatives without a voice in the race.

“When Ernie Yarbrough and his cronies worked behind closed doors to remove me, it deprived voters of their voice in this election,” Mancuso said. “I stand firmly for conservative values, limited government, and protecting the rights of Alabama families. I’m proud to be a Trump Independent candidate, and ready to take my message directly to the voters.”

“Our campaign will move forward with urgency and determination, driven by the belief that elections belong to the voters — not to committees, not to insiders, and not to anyone trying to limit the choices of the people of District 7,” stated Mancuso.

Mancuso previously served in the Alabama House from 1998 to 2002 as a Democrat, years before the Alabama Republican Party locked down its supermajority in 2010.

Yarbrough, who is seeking re-election, highlighted in a social media post his strong conservative voting record and community-focused accomplishments during his time in office.

Among those efforts, Yarbrough advertised the launch of countywide service days to assist elderly residents and those in need, awarding more than 40 grants to local schools, fundraising and resource support for volunteer fire departments, and helping bring jobs and infrastructure investment to the district.

“I am thrilled to announce I have qualified to run for reelection,” Yarbrough wrote. “From the beginning, we have been committed to doing our utmost to show love, care and concern and to be highly involved in District 7.”

Alabama House District 7 includes Moulton, Hatton, Courtland, Leighton and a portion of Morgan County.

The general election is Tuesday, November 3.
