FLORENCE — Citing a love for the state and people of North Alabama, State Sen. Tim Melson kicked off his reelection campaign, pledging to continue his strong, conservative leadership for District 1, which includes Lauderdale and Limestone counties.
Melson (R-Florence) was first elected in 2014 and has earned a reputation for representing his district with integrity, championing conservative values, and delivering results for North Alabama, a news release said.
As an advocate for the region, Melson said he has focused on protecting individual freedoms, supporting economic growth, and strengthening workforce development — especially in partnership with institutions like the University of North Alabama.
“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but there’s more work to do, especially with President Trump’s recent announcement that Space Command is coming to North Alabama,” said Melson. “North Alabama is growing, and I want to continue fighting for the people of Lauderdale and Limestone counties — to protect our conservative values, improve job opportunities, and ensure our families and communities have a voice in Montgomery.”
During his time in the Senate, Melson voted to expand job training programs while promoting fiscally responsible policies, and advancing legislation that defends Alabama’s deeply held values.
Melson said his re-election campaign will focus on continuing the progress made in economic development, education, healthcare, and public safety — while ensuring that state government remains accountable to the people it serves.
“I’m running for re-election because I love this state, and I believe in the people of North Alabama,” Melson said. “It’s been an honor to serve, and I look forward to earning the support of voters once again.”
Melson was raised in Florence and graduated from the University of North Alabama. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After finishing school, Melson moved back to Florence where he began practicing as an anesthesiologist at Helen Keller Hospital.
In addition to his duties as owner of Shoals Medical Trials, Melson owns and operates a crop farm and is a hobbyist cattleman.
Tim and his wife Lynn have been married 45 years; they have three children and five grandchildren. They attend Wood Avenue Church of Christ in Florence.
