DECATUR – A woman has been arrested in connection with the body of a newborn baby girl found in a dumpster early Tuesday.
Decatur police said Cindy Nicole Crow, 36, has been arrested for a felony charge of abuse of a corpse. She was booked into the Morgan County Jail where she is to be held in lieu of a $200,000 bond.
The arrest came after police were asked to check the well-being of Crow, who was believed to have recently given birth. As the investigation progressed, evidence was obtained that confirmed Crow had been pregnant as early as February and had recently given birth.
However, her newborn baby was unaccounted for, police said.
Investigators, acting on a call early Tuesday, responded to Wally World Mini Mart on Point Mallard Drive and found the infant’s body in a trash bag at the bottom of a dumpster under several other large bags of trash. The body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy.
Decatur police said the investigation is ongoing and additional criminal charges are likely following results from the autopsy.
