A coordinated two-day law enforcement operation across North Alabama resulted in more than 40 arrests tied to violent crime, drug offenses, and property crimes, according to FBI Birmingham officials.
The effort, dubbed “Operation Spring Cleaning,” took place April 15–16 and brought together more than 50 federal, state, and local officers working in a concentrated enforcement push.
Led by the FBI Birmingham’s North Alabama Safe Streets Task Force, the operation focused on serving outstanding warrants, conducting criminal patrols, and enforcing drug laws across multiple jurisdictions.
Authorities said the arrests stemmed from a wide range of alleged offenses, including child abuse and torture, drug distribution and possession, as well as burglary and theft.
“Operation Spring Cleaning demonstrates the incredible outcomes that are possible when law enforcement agencies at all levels unite their resources to execute a concentrated and vigorous strategy against violent crime,” said FBI Birmingham Special Agent in Charge David R. Fitzgibbons.
The operation drew participation from numerous agencies across the region, including the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and its Drug Enforcement Unit, along with police departments in Pell City, Ashville, Odenville, Moody, Leeds, Riverside, Margaret, Argo, Springville, Irondale, and Trussville. Additional support came from sheriff’s offices in Shelby, Blount, Etowah, and Calhoun counties.
Officials said the initiative is part of a broader FBI-led effort through the Violent Crime Abatement Team, or VCAT, which brings together federal, state, and local partners to target violent and gun-related offenses across North Alabama.
The coordinated approach, authorities said, is designed to pool resources and pursue cases that may ultimately lead to federal prosecution while also addressing crime trends at the local level.
