Nighttime resurfacing work along the Research Park Boulevard service roads is scheduled to begin Sunday evening, weather permitting, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation.

The project will focus on resurfacing the SR-255 service roads from north of U.S. Highway 72 to north of State Route 53 in Huntsville.

Rogers Group, the contractor overseeing the $1.6 million project, will mill and pave the roadway during overnight hours.

The work follows a separate $2.6 million resurfacing project completed last summer on the mainline lanes and ramps of Research Park Boulevard along the same corridor.

Motorists should expect single-lane closures from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights while crews are working. Transportation officials said drivers should plan for possible delays and use caution in the area.

ALDOT said the resurfacing project is expected to be completed this summer.

The department is also reminding drivers to slow down in work zones, remain alert for workers and heavy equipment near traffic lanes and allow extra travel time during construction periods.
