HUNTSVILLE — “Start here. Go anywhere” is the slogan for Alabama A&M University.

Soon, the school may be able to add, ” … in a pair of Nike Terminator Highs.”

Through the sporting good giant’s Yardrunners program, the Bulldogs have their own shoe.

“This is something we’re very excited about,” said Aaron Thompson, Alabama A&M assistant vice president for advancement and branding. “This is an ongoing program to amplify and celebrate HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities).

“This is the fourth iteration of the shoe. Tuskegee and Tennessee State have theirs this week.”

The shoe is in AAMU’s colors of maroon and white. The school’s mascot, the bulldog Butch, is featured on the tongue label revealing his cute yet menacing face, while golden bone-shaped lace dubrae provide treats for its protector.

“Normalite” is printed on the laces as a banner for the Normalite Opportunity Scholarship, which rewards select students outside of the state of Alabama. Additionally, the school’s motto of “Service Is Sovereignty” appears on the right insole, while its founding year of 1875 is proudly stamped on the outer toes.

The official launch is Friday from 2-6 p.m. at City G.E.A.R., 2250 Sparkman Drive in Huntsville. The event will include a performance by the Alabama A&M Marching Maroon and White Band along with others special presentations and recognitions.

“There is a limited supply,” said Thompson, who will “stop by.”

“Get there early!”
