North Alabama resurfacing projects starting this week

ATHENS — Contractors are beginning work Monday on three resurfacing projects in north Alabama, weather permitting.

In Limestone County, Grayson Carter and Son Contracting will start a $2.2 million resurfacing of nearly six miles of U.S. 72 from Shaw Road to York Lane, west of Athens.

In Lawrence County, contractor Rogers Group will begin a $2 million resurfacing of five miles of Alabama Highway 20 from the Colbert County line to County Road 585, west of Courtland.

And in Cherokee County, Wiregrass Construction will start a nearly $1 million resurfacing of three miles of Alabama Highway 35 from Highway 273, north of Gaylesville, to the DeKalb County line.

Last week, Whitaker Contracting began a $1.6 million resurfacing of about seven miles of U.S. 11 in DeKalb County from the Etowah County line to Lykes Lane in Collinsville.

ALDOT advises motorists to expect delays due to single-lane closures within the work zones.
