Butler Snow LLP will relocate its Huntsville office to the Front Row mixed-use development in downtown Huntsville. The high-profile move marks the latest win for the $220 million project adjacent to the Von Braun Center.

The law firm announced Tuesday that it has signed a lease for office space in the first phase of Front Row, with the new office expected to open in 2027.

The move will relocate Butler Snow from its current office at 200 West Side Square, where the firm has operated since April 2023.  The former Central Bank Building was home to The Huntsville Times and AL.com offices.

Front Row is an 11-acre mixed-use development rising on the former Coca-Cola bottling plant site across from the Von Braun Center. The project is designed as a hospitality-inspired urban district featuring luxury residential units, curated retail and restaurant space, Class A office space, and a central plaza intended to serve as a public gathering place. Developers have said the project is designed to create a walkable, live-work-play destination that complements Huntsville’s continued downtown growth.

“We are excited to be part of the continued growth and momentum in downtown Huntsville,” said Christopher R. Maddux, chair of Butler Snow LLP.

“Huntsville has established itself as one of the Southeast’s leading centers for business, technology and innovation. Front Row reflects the kind of modern, forward-thinking development that complements our collaborative culture and reinforces our long-term investment in the region. The new office space will create an outstanding experience for our clients and attorneys alike.”

Front Row developer Essex Capital said Butler Snow’s decision reflects continued demand for office space in the downtown project.

“We are thrilled to welcome Butler Snow to Front Row and to continue building a dynamic destination in the heart of downtown Huntsville,” said Mitchell Rutter, CEO of Essex Capital. “Their investment in the project reflects the continued strength and growth of the Huntsville market.”

Butler Snow said the relocation is part of its ongoing investment in Alabama and will provide a modern, collaborative workspace for attorneys and clients.

The firm employs more than 400 attorneys and advisors across 25 offices in the United States and London. Its Huntsville office serves clients across North Alabama in a variety of practice areas.

Front Row is being developed through a partnership between Ascend Property Group and Essex Capital, along with affiliates of Silverstein Properties, Cantor Fitzgerald and Arctaris Impact Investors. As construction of the first phase, Front Row 2, nears completion, future residents have already taken notice. Preleasing began in February.

The first phase nearing completion, Front Row 2, includes office, residential, retail and entertainment space.  Preleasing for the “hospitality-inspired” residences began in February.
