GUNTERSVILLE — Polls are open today for the state Senate District 9 Republican special primary. They opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.

District 9 includes parts of northern Blount County and southern Madison County and all of Marshall County.

The special primary is between former Morgan County Commissioner Stacy George and two state House incumbents, Rep. Wes Kitchens (R-Arab) and Rep. Brock Colvin (R-Albertville).

The seat opened up when former Senate Majority Leader Clay Scofield resigned to take the position of executive vice president of the Business Council of Alabama.

If a run-off election is needed, it will be Feb. 6. The special general election is April 23.
