Alabama employers posted more than 124,000 online job openings in June, with registered nurses once again leading the state’s hiring demand, according to new data from the Alabama Department of Workforce.

The department’s Labor Market Information Division reported 124,403 online job advertisements in June, a 3.3% increase from May and a 26.8% increase compared to June 2025.

Registered nurses topped the list with 9,990 job postings, followed by customer service representatives, retail salespersons, general and operations managers, and fast food and counter workers.

The median advertised wage for jobs posted in June was $55,168 annually. The department also reported there were 0.51 job candidates for every available opening, reflecting continued demand for workers across the state.

“June’s job posting data reflects continued momentum in Alabama’s labor market, with more than 124,000 online job ads, an increase of more than 4,000 postings from May, demonstrating sustained demand for workers across a wide range of industries,” Workforce Secretary Greg Reed said.

Reed said healthcare, retail, hospitality and management occupations continue to drive hiring as employers work to fill critical positions.

“The 3.3 percent monthly increase in online job ads, along with strong year-over-year growth and a competitive hiring environment, underscores the resilience of Alabama’s economy and the abundance of career opportunities available throughout our state,” said Reed. “These trends continue to highlight the importance of workforce development initiatives that connect job seekers with rewarding, in-demand careers.”

He added that Alabama Career Centers remain available to help job seekers identify career opportunities, strengthen their job search and develop new skills.

“Our career centers across the state remain committed to helping job seekers explore available career paths, strengthen their job search efforts, and access the resources needed to succeed in today’s workforce,” Reed said. “With employer demand continuing to grow, our teams stand ready to assist Alabamians in finding meaningful employment, developing new skills, and advancing their careers.”

Among employers, Walmart posted the most online job advertisements in June with 1,045 openings, followed by McDonald’s with 827.

Huntsville Hospital ranked third statewide with 743 job postings, followed by the University of Alabama at Birmingham with 687, Tacala LLC with 553, Leidos with 514, UAB Health System with 483, Baptist Health with 452, DCH Health System with 385 and Infirmary Health System with 315.
