Rockin’ the Red, White & Boom! Athens hosts inaugural Fourth of July Battle of the Bands

ATHENS — It may not be the sounds of freedom, but the inaugural Battle of the Bands: Rockin’ the Red, White & BOOM will be the main event as Athens celebrates on the Fourth of July.
Local bands, musicians and singers are invited to try out for the inaugural competition with five selected acts will battle of the top spot and a $250 grand prize.
The show is 5 p.m. during the Red, White, & Boom July 4th Festival at the Athens Sportsplex.
The fireworks show has expanded to include a full day of activities. It all starts at 5 p.m. and includes a vendor fair, food trucks and music.
Though the festival is hosted at the Sportsplex, the fireworks will be launched at Athens Middle School around 9 p.m.  After the show, the Battle of the Bands winner will perform a short concert to wrap up the night.
For the battle, bands and solo artists of all styles are welcome to apply. This is a family-friendly event so no explicit lyrics are allowed. The acts must bring their own instruments and equipment. Solo performers must provide their own accompaniment – no a cappella.
 How it works:
  • Five performers will be chosen to compete.
  • Each act gets a 20-minute set.
  • The winner will be announced just before the fireworks and will perform a mini-concert after the show.
To enter, send name and video (with clear sound) to [email protected].
