HUNTSVILLE — Attorney Ronald Wayne Smith was appointed district judge Monday for the 23rd Judicial Circuit which serves Madison County.

Smith’s appointment fills a vacancy when Gov. Kay Ivey appointed then-District Judge Patrick Tuten to the circuit judgeship. Tuten’s position was created when the seat was reallocated from Jefferson County, based on changing population, to Madison County.

In her appointment letter to Smith, Ivey wrote, “I have made honesty and integrity a priority in my administration, and I know that you will embody these two virtues while serving the people of Alabama.

“I am confident you will render invaluable service to the citizens of Alabama.”

Smith, a 2000 graduate from the University of Alabama School of Law, joins Presiding District Judge Donald N. Rizzardi, District Judge Patricia Dunn Demos and District Judge Linda F. Coats in the Madison County Court.
