Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is reminding residents that the deadline to register to vote ahead of the state’s May 19 primary election is Monday, May 4.

In a statement, Allen emphasized the importance of participation in the electoral process and encouraged eligible voters to confirm their registration status.

“The right of eligible United States citizens to vote in fair and secure elections is one of the hallmarks of our constitutional republic,” Allen said. “I encourage all eligible Alabamians to register to vote or verify their voter registration status on AlabamaVotes.gov ahead of the May 19 Primary Election.”

Voters can register online through the state’s election website or submit a paper application to their local Board of Registrars by mail or in person.

To be eligible to vote in Alabama, individuals must be U.S. citizens, residents of the state and at least 18 years old on or before Election Day. Those disqualified due to certain felony convictions or deemed mentally incompetent by a court are not eligible.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, and voters must present a valid photo ID when voting in person or by absentee ballot.

Allen also thanked local election officials for their work preparing for the primary, which will include races for all of Alabama’s constitutional offices, including governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, agriculture commissioner, state treasurer, secretary of state and state auditor, as well as a U.S. Senate seat.

The general election is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026.
