Soak and suds: Summer fun set for Wicks Family Field at The Joe

HUNTSVILLE – Summer is coming in a few weeks, and with it the promise of a simmering sun baking the land with daily temperatures hovering in the 90s.

The folks at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium are offering a respite from the heat while the Boys in Blue of the Huntsville City Football Club, the facility’s anchor tenant, are on the road.

The inaugural Kids Summer Splash Jump Fest will take place July 10-13 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

And it’s not just for the young ones.

While the kids play, parents and guardians can relax with a bite and cold beverage at the concessions area.

“That’s one of the fun parts. We’ll have the beer garden open for concessions and beverages of all types,” said Chad Emerson, HCFC Managing Director of Business Operations. “Mom and Dad can visit with friends in the Yellowhammer Brewing Beer Garden while the kiddos enjoy the bouncy houses and water games – including an absolutely huge slip and slide!”

Families attending the inaugural event at The Joe can enjoy a variety of activities, including:

  • The Water Battle Zone, featuring water guns and balloons
  • Wet and dry inflatables
  • Kids coloring stations
  • Soccer at the kick wall
  • Food and beverage at the Yellowhammer Brewing Craft Beer Garden

Tickets to the Kids Summer Splash Jump Fest are available here. Single-day tickets can be purchased for $20 and four-day passes are available for $50. Parents and guardians get in for free, and the event is limited to children ages 12 and younger.

“We’ve been brainstorming on how to make Wicks Family Field a community gathering space for fun events outside our amazing soccer matches,” Emerson said. “With summer here, we quickly realized that water fun and bouncy houses would be a great way for the families to enjoy.”

The Boys in Blue are visiting the New England Revolution the weekend of the festival.

“Wicks Family Field is designed to host lots of other sports and non-sporting events,” Emerson said. “For example, we can host over 12,000 for outdoor concerts and other entertainment events.”

The Kids Summer Splash Jump Fest won’t be relegated to the parking lot, Emerson said, but will unfold “on the beautiful green Wicks Family Field pitch.”
