Splash pad bash at Brahan Spring Park ushers in higher temps

HUNTSVILLE – Memorial Day annually marks the unofficial start of summer but, more than a week later, the Huntsville Parks & Recreation Department is throwing a party just in time for what’s expected to be the arrival of a heat wave.

Temperatures are forecast to begin creeping into the mid-to-high 90s Friday with a heat index nearing or above 100 degrees, and Parks & Rec has one answer with its Splish Splash Bash for children ages 3-5 at Brahan Spring Park.

The Bash will be from 9-11 a.m. at the Everybody Can Play Splash Pad. There will be popsicles, engaging crafts and lively music. Children must be accompanied by an adult to ensure a safe and fun experience.

The pad is open daily through September from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., excluding Wednesday when it opens an hour later for cleaning. It’s free to use and includes a large pavilion available to rent. Bathrooms are attached to the pad’s large area that includes a seating area with two picnic tables. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a member of their family 16 years of age or older.
