Come hungry and help bring baseball to more Madison athletes.
More than 20 area restaurants will take over Toyota Field on Thursday for the inaugural Taste of Madison, a community food festival benefiting the Miracle League of Madison and its effort to build an accessible baseball field at Palmer Park.
The Sept. 24 event runs from 6 to 9 p.m., with guests able to sample signature dishes and local favorites from restaurants across Madison and the surrounding area.
Participating restaurants include Old Black Bear Brewing, Chuck’s Fish, J. Alexander’s, Main Street Cafe, Melt, Prohibition, Stoney River Steakhouse & Grill, Grimaldi’s, Champy’s Fried Chicken, Moe’s Original BBQ and others.
Tickets are $90 and include food samples from participating restaurants. They are available through the Rocket City Trash Pandas website.
Proceeds will help the Miracle League of Madison move closer to its goal of opening a specially designed baseball field at Palmer Park by spring 2028.
Miracle League fields are designed to remove barriers that can make traditional baseball fields difficult or impossible for players with physical or cognitive disabilities. They feature a flat, rubberized playing surface and accessible dugouts, allowing athletes who use wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility aids to participate.
The Miracle League of Madison joined the national Miracle League organization in November 2022. Since then, a citizen-led committee has been working on plans, renderings and cost estimates for the Palmer Park facility.
The national organization dates to 2000, when the first Miracle League field opened in Conyers, Georgia. Today, the organization says more than 350 Miracle League groups serve children and adults across the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.
The Madison event will combine that mission with a showcase of the city’s growing restaurant scene.
Among the participating restaurants are Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, Chef Jocelyn’s Kitchen, ChikinJip, Eggs Up Grill, Lola’s Cocina, New South Hot Dog & Sushi, Super Chix, Walk-On’s and Zanotta’s Ristorante.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Thursday at Toyota Field.
