UNA nursing school hosts Tiny Cubs community baby shower Saturday

FLORENCE – The Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions is hosting its annual Tiny Cubs Community Baby Shower and Sibling Event on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Guillot University Center Banquet Halls on the University of North Alabama campus.

“This event is a wonderful opportunity for our nursing students to put their knowledge into action, serving families in our community with compassionate care and education,” said Dr. Melissa DeFoor, an event founder and assistant professor in the college. “By providing expectant parents and their loved ones with the resources they need, we are fostering healthier beginnings for both mothers and babies.”

In its fourth year, the Tiny Cubs event has outgrown its original location in Harrison Hall and now welcomes hundreds of mothers-to-be and siblings. In addition to ACONHP students and faculty, it is also hosted in collaboration with local vendors. The come-and-go event is designed to support expectant mothers, their support persons, and siblings with education, essential resources, and special gifts.

“In addition to valuable guidance for new parents, the event will feature a sibling class, helping children adjust to their new role as big brothers and sisters,” said DeFoor.

Local vendors, hospital staff, and pediatric offices will be on hand to share important community services and support options, ensuring that every family leaves feeling empowered and prepared.

“The Tiny Cubs Community Baby Shower is a celebration of new life, but it’s also a reflection of the power of community,” said Dr. Ann-Marie Irons, the event co-founder and an associate professor in the nursing college. “Through partnerships between healthcare professionals, students, and local organizations, we can provide lasting support to families as they embark on this exciting journey.”
