If you’ve never experienced a Velcro Pygmies show, downtown Athens will offer the perfect opportunity the Friday.

The popular ’80s rock band will return to headline the final Fridays After Five concert of the season on Friday, July 31, bringing its signature high-energy performance back to downtown after drawing a large crowd last year.

The free community event begins at 5 p.m., with DJ entertainment provided by Open Door Logistics leading up to the band’s performance.

In addition to live music, attendees can enjoy food trucks, a Kids Zone sponsored by Taylor’s Cool Treats and extended shopping and dining hours from 5 to 9 p.m. Organizers encourage visitors to bring lawn chairs and spend the evening enjoying family-friendly entertainment in the heart of downtown Athens.

The Fridays After Five concert series is presented by The Orthopaedic Center Athens.

Additional support is provided by First Metro Bank, which sponsors a gathering and dining area, and GROWL, which provides sound production for the event.

Other sponsors include North Alabama Airfest/Pryor Field Regional Airport, LaunchBox at Athens State University, Ramona J’s, Ming Commercial Real Estate Group, Morell Engineering and Huntsville International Airport.

The event is free and open to the public.
