The Land Trust of North Alabama, the City of Huntsville and the Alabama Trails Foundation are partnering to spotlight one of the city’s most popular hiking destinations as part of a statewide outdoor recreation initiative.

The groups are celebrating the Year of Alabama Trails at Blevins Gap Nature Preserve, featuring the Bill and Marion Certain Trail, a 1.97-mile route known for its scenic ridge overlooks and panoramic views. The trail climbs steadily for roughly a half mile before leveling out along a ridge with overlooks on both sides.

Land Trust of North Alabama Executive Director Marie Bostick said the partnership reflects the broader value trails bring to communities.

“Trails connect people to nature, improve quality of life, and create opportunities for communities to experience the outdoors together,” Bostick said. “We are proud to partner with organizations across the state to celebrate Alabama’s incredible trail systems and to highlight the natural beauty we have here in Huntsville.”

Mayor Tommy Battle said access to green space is central to what makes Huntsville an attractive place to live and do business.

“Access to trails, greenways and natural spaces is an important part of what makes Huntsville a great place to live,” Battle said. “It not only provides opportunities for exercise but showcases our city’s beauty as well. It’s truly a welcoming attraction that draws residents, visitors and businesses to our community.”

The Year of Alabama Trails is a statewide initiative between the Alabama Tourism Department and the Alabama Trails Foundation running throughout 2026. Communities across the state are hosting events, hikes and educational programs encouraging residents and visitors to explore Alabama’s trail systems.
