This Fourth of July is one for the history books. As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, communities across North Alabama are marking the milestone with patriotic festivities, from hometown parades and live music to spectacular firework displays and family-friendly festivals. Here’s where you can join the celebration this Independence Day weekend.

First Fridays — Florence

July 3rd

Downtown Florence comes alive for one of the Shoals’ favorite monthly traditions during First Fridays. Stroll Court Street while browsing handmade goods from local artisans, listening to live music, grabbing dinner from local restaurants or food vendors and enjoying a festive evening with family and friends. The free community event runs from 5:30-9 p.m. during the summer months, making it the perfect way to kick off the holiday weekend. 

July 3 Firework Extravaganza — Guin

Kick off Independence Day weekend at Guin’s July 3 Firework Extravaganza, an evening filled with live music, local vendors and family-friendly fun. Browse arts and crafts vendors, check out the car show, enjoy food from local vendors and catch performances by Southern Legends Band and the Kerry Gilbert Band before the night wraps up with a fireworks display at 9 p.m. The free event takes place from 6-10 p.m. at Guin-Hayden Riley Park, and attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

4th of July Fireworks on Lake Guntersville

Celebrate Independence Day along the shores of Lake Guntersville with an evening of live music and one of North Alabama’s most scenic fireworks displays. A free concert at the Jeff Cook Stage in Civitan Park begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by fireworks over the lake at 9 p.m. Bleacher seating will be available, or attendees can bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the show from the park or anywhere along Sunset Drive.

Huntsville Salutes America’s 250th

July 4th

Celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a patriotic afternoon and evening in downtown Huntsville. The festivities begin at 4 p.m. with family-friendly activities, live entertainment, historical reenactments and interactive exhibits honoring the nation’s history, before a spectacular fireworks show lights up the sky at 9:30 p.m. The free celebration offers a full day of entertainment as the Rocket City joins communities across the country in commemorating this once-in-a-lifetime milestone. 

Smith Lake Park 4th of July Festival — Cullman

Make a day of it at Smith Lake Park’s annual Fourth of July Fireworks Festival, where lakeside fun continues from morning until night. Spend the day swimming, boating, browsing arts and crafts vendors, shopping with local merchants and enjoying food from a variety of vendors while live music keeps the celebration going. As the sun sets, find a spot along the shoreline for the festival’s fireworks display over Smith Lake at 9 p.m. Admission is $5 per person or $20 per vehicle, making it an affordable way to celebrate Independence Day with the whole family.
