As June winds down and Independence Day celebrations begin to ramp up, communities across North Alabama are filling their calendars with festivals, fireworks and family-friendly events. Whether you’re looking to learn about Alabama history, browse local arts and crafts, enjoy live entertainment or catch an early fireworks show, there’s no shortage of ways to spend the week. Here are a few events happening across the region from June 26 through July 2.

Art of the Dish Exhibit — Tuscumbia

June 24th-27th

Step back in time at the annual Art of the Dish Exhibit at historic Belle Mont Mansion in Tuscumbia. Held June 26-28, the exhibit showcases antique and vintage china, glassware and table settings from private collections throughout the Shoals, with pieces dating back to the 1700s. Visitors can explore beautifully arranged tablescapes throughout the mansion while learning about the history and traditions of Southern dining and entertaining. The event offers a unique blend of history, design and local culture, making it a perfect outing for anyone who appreciates antiques or Alabama history.

Helen Keller Festival — Tuscumbia

June 25th-28th

Celebrate the life and legacy of one of Alabama’s most influential figures at the Helen Keller Festival, taking place June 25-28 in Tuscumbia. The four-day event features a parade, live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, food, family activities and educational experiences that honor Helen Keller’s accomplishments and advocate for the deaf and blind communities. Festival highlights include the Marketplace at Spring Park, children’s activities, live music and a free downtown street party following Thursday’s parade.

Ditto Landing Independence Day Celebration — Huntsville

June 27th

Kick off your Fourth of July festivities a little early at the annual Independence Day Celebration at Ditto Landing on June 27. This free, family-friendly event features live music from 5 O’Clock Charlie and The Tavern Preachers, a lineup of food trucks, and a fireworks show over the Tennessee River beginning at 9 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m., giving guests plenty of time to grab dinner, find a spot along the waterfront, and enjoy an evening celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Admission is free, with $5 parking per vehicle.

Rainsville Freedom Fest — Rainsville

June 27th

Head to DeKalb County for a day of family-friendly fun at Rainsville Freedom Fest on June 27. Held at the Field of Dreams, the free community event features live entertainment, food vendors, arts and crafts, inflatables, a car show and activities for all ages. Guests can spend the afternoon enjoying the festivities before the evening concludes with a fireworks show at 9 p.m. Festivities begin at 1 p.m., making it an easy way to spend the day with friends, family and neighbors.
