Air Force Band of the West to play in Tuscumbia

TUSCUMBIA – The United States Air Force Band of the West brings its mighty sound to the Shoals this weekend

This free concert is 2 p.m. Sunday at the Helen Keller Library.

Out of Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, the airmen assigned to the Band of the West are professionals dedicated to serving the United States through music.

According to the Air Force, the Band of the West travels more than 125,000 miles each year, providing hundreds of performances throughout the South and in Puerto Rico.

“The organization is made up of the large ensembles Concert Band, Ceremonial Marching Band, Dimensions in Blue, and two popular music groups, Top Flight, and Velocity,” the Air Force website says. “Small ensembles within the unit include Freedom Brass, Spectrum Winds, Mission Winds, and protocol combos. This diversity enables the USAF Band of the West to perform practically any style of music from classical and country to marches and mambos.”

Whether a longtime fan of military bands or new to their music, this performance will provide an afternoon of inspiring music.

For more information, call 256-383-7065. The library is at 511 N. Main Street.
