Alabama A&M University established two new scholarship initiatives aimed at expanding educational access and supporting student success.
The first, the 12th President Daniel K. Wims and Fountain B. Wims Agricultural Sciences Endowment, is housed within the Alabama A&M University Foundation and reflects the university’s land-grant mission.
The endowment launches with an initial investment of $325,000 and honors the legacy of Fountain B. Wims alongside the leadership of current university President Daniel K. Wims.
The fund will provide ongoing scholarship support for undergraduate students with financial need who are pursuing degrees in agricultural fields, including natural resources and environmental sciences, plant and soil sciences and food and animal sciences.
“Alabama A&M continues to equip students with the knowledge and experience needed to make a lasting impact on communities,” Wims said in a statement, adding that the endowment is meant to invest in both students and the future of agriculture.
University officials say the endowment builds on Alabama A&M’s history of producing graduates who’ve gone on to work across the agricultural industry, government agencies, research institutions and environmental organizations.
Separately, the Alabama A&M University Board of Trustees announced its own new scholarship, the 2026 Board of Trustees Endowed Scholarship, launching with an initial investment of $25,000 and planned annual contributions. The board also announced a new Student Emergency Gap Fund to help students facing unexpected financial hardship.
Together, university officials say the initiatives mark a push toward expanding access and supporting students academically and financially as the university looks toward its future.
