Alabama, Greenwood rolling into Huntsville

HUNTSVILE – Two of the biggest acts in country music history will be rolling into the Rocket City in December.

The “boys from Fort Payne,” aka the multi-platinum selling country rock group Alabama, announced its “Roll on North America” tour is coming to Huntsville’s Von Braun Center Propst Arena.

And, they’re bringing a special guest – Lee Greenwood. This is Greenwood’s first time in Huntsville since his tribute celebration in 2021 which is the fifth-highest grossing event in VBC history.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. and prices range from $39.75 to $154.75 plus applicable fees. They will be available at the VBC Box Office and online at ticketmaster.com.

Some 50 years ago, cousins Teddy Gentry, Randy Owen and the late Jeff Cook left the cotton farms of Fort Payne, to spend the summer playing music in a Myrtle Beach, S.C., bar called The Bowery. From there, the rest is history as Alabama went on to sell 80 million albums and change the face and sound of country music.

While their music became the soundtrack for American life, the band introduced rock style guitars, lights, pyrotechnics and sounds to the country audience that has inspired many of today’s brightest country stars including Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan.

In five decades, Alabama has charted 43 No. 1 singles, including 21 No. 1 singles in a row, and have won dozens of CMA, Grammy, and ACM Awards. They are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame and have their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In addition, they are world-class philanthropists who have raised millions of dollars for various charities.

Not to be outdone, Greenwood has earned multiple CMA and ACM Awards, a Grammy Award for Top Male Vocal Performance on “I.O.U,” in 1985, and a multitude of other prestigious awards nominations.

His discography includes 22 studio albums, seven compilation albums, seven No. 1 hits, and 38 singles including songs like “It Turns Me Inside Out,” “Ring On Her Finger Time on Her Hands,” “She’s Lyin’,” “I Don’t Mind the Thorns if You’re the Rose,” “Dixie Road,” “Somebody’s Gonna Love You,” “Going Going Gone,” “You Got A Good Love Comin’,” among others.

His stand-out hit “God Bless the U.S.A.” has been in the top five on the country singles charts three times (1991, 2001, and 2003), giving it the distinction of being the only song in any genre of music to achieve that feat.
