For the 13th consecutive year, Bank Independent is partnering with communities across North Alabama to help ensure local students have the school supplies they need for a successful school year.

The campaign, which began June 29, features this year’s theme, “$5 Helps Carry the Cost,” encouraging community members to donate either school supplies or financial contributions to help provide essential classroom materials for local children.

Monetary donations can be made through the Helping Hands Foundation via PayPal or dropped off at any Bank Independent location.

“School Share is one of the many ways we live out our commitment to make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors,” said Macke Mauldin, CEO of Bank Independent. “Each donation, whether it is $5 or a backpack full of supplies, helps remove a burden for local families and gives students the confidence to begin the school year ready to learn. We are grateful for the generosity of our team members, customers and community partners who continue to make this effort possible year after year.”

Bank Independent will also host School Share collection events on July 17 in Florence, Athens, Decatur and Madison. Specific collection locations and event details will be announced before the events.

Since launching in 2013, the annual drive has helped provide school supplies for students throughout North Alabama. Donations are distributed through community partners across the bank’s seven-county service area.

This year’s partner organizations include Sidney’s Safe and the Teacher Supply Depot in Lauderdale County, the departments of human resources in Franklin, Lawrence and Limestone counties, the Committee on Church Cooperation in Morgan County, and Free 2 Teach in Madison County.

Bank Independent’s School Share campaign is organized through its Helping Hands Foundation, a nonprofit established following the April 27, 2011, tornado outbreak to support charitable initiatives throughout the communities the bank serves.
