Building business: Turner hosts development workshop

HUNTSVILLE — It is all about building relationships and constructing a network of large, successful contractors.

The Turner Construction School of Construction Management is hosting a workshop on developing business relationships. The program is for local small, disadvantaged, minority-owned, women-owned, and veteran-owned construction-oriented businesses.

The workshop will help enhance managerial, technical and administrative expertise for business owners. Officials with certified businesses will share their experiences to help companies compete for subcontracts.

The eight-week workshops begin July 13 and run every Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Bryant Bank, 320 Pelham Ave. in Huntsville. Lunch is provided.

Turner aims to secure at least 20% of subcontract work through SMWBE businesses, but said it often exceeds 30% on many projects.

The program presents an opportunity for firms to improve their economic viability by enhancing their managerial, technical, and administrative skills while networking with similar businesses.

The Turner Construction office in Huntsville opened in the 1950s and has completed work in Cummings Research Park, Redstone Arsenal, and the Marshall Space Flight Center. Projects include the Huntsville Botanical Garden Visitor Center, Toyota Field, and the new Huntsville City Hall.

Applicants must have been in business at least three years and have a construction-oriented business model.

The workshops are free to qualified businesses, but space is limited. Registration closes June 30. Click here to register.
