Dobson: ‘There’s nothing more fundamental than election integrity’

HUNTSVILLE – Republican attorney Caroleene Dobson said she’s running for Alabama’s next Secretary of State to strengthen public trust in elections and ensure state government operates with transparency and accountability.

On a recent campaign stop in Huntsville, the Republican candidate outlined her goals for the state’s chief elections office.

“There’s nothing more fundamental than election integrity,” Dobson said. “In order for our state to move forward, for our kids and grandkids to enjoy the freedoms, to appreciate the values, to have opportunities in this state, we need to have trust in our economy and trust in our elections.”

Dobson praised Alabama’s election security laws as among the strongest in the nation, but said enforcement and oversight must go further.

“We have some good laws in place, but they’re starting points and our laws are only good if they’re actually being enforced,” she said.

As part of her platform, Dobson is calling for the creation of a dedicated Election Integrity Division within the Secretary of State’s Office, modeled after Florida’s “Election Crimes Unit.”

She said the division would include “a group of dedicated professionals who daily are working on election integrity, whether it’s voter roll maintenance or following up on claims of election fraud.”

Dobson also linked her campaign to a broader push for restoring public confidence in government, echoing the message of President Donald Trump.

“President Trump is rebuilding that trust and transparency in Washington, D.C., and we Alabamians deserve that same trust and transparency when it comes to our statewide officers,” she said.

Dobson, who ran in the 2024 Republican primary for Alabama’s Second Congressional District, said her legal background and conservative values position her to lead one of the state’s most visible constitutional offices.

“We need elections that we can rely on and an economy our kids and grandkids can participate in,” she said.

The Secretary of State’s race will be open in 2026; current officeholder Wes Allen has announced he will seek the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.

The Republican primary election in Alabama is scheduled for May 19, 2026, with the general election to follow on Nov. 3, 2026.  Dobson will face Alabama State auditor Andrew Sorrell in the primary.

Dobson said election integrity and economic opportunity are the central focus of her campaign.

“We need to make sure Alabama remains a place where families thrive, business grows, and every vote counts,” she said.
