Driving for education: Free 2 Teach celebrates opening for school year with gift from Landers McLarty Subaru

HUNTSVILLE – Free 2 Teach celebrated its opening for the upcoming school year with a special gift of $80,000 from Landers McClarty Subaru.
The gift, which was given as part of the Subaru Share the Love campaign, is the second largest donation in the organization’s history.
At Monday’s opening shop, the free store welcomed 135 teachers and made the announcement with a check presentation from the Subaru team.
“Subaru is making an incredible investment in the thousands of teachers and children we serve at Free 2 Teach,” said Free 2 Teach CEO Alison Kling. “To open for the school year with this transformational gift and powerful partnership with Frank Williams and the entire Landers McLarty Subaru team is inspiring.
“Together we are impacting children by investing in their teachers.”
Subaru Share the Love is a national giving program that has resulted in $320 million raised over eighteen years for charities selected by local retailers. Subaru is dedicated to investing in the local community and supporting nonprofits close to the hearts of their customers.
Free 2 Teach was selected as a Subaru Share the Love partner, bringing the community together to give back and support teachers and students.
“We are so impressed by the work and vision of the team at Free 2 Teach and honored to partner with them as part of Subaru Share the Love campaign,” said Frank Williams, managing partner and executive manager for Landers McLarty. “I am proud to partner with an organization dedicated to providing teachers with the tools they need to inspire children in our public schools.”
The free store is open 11 months of the year and public-school teachers in Limestone and Madison Counties can shop for free every month. Donors support the mission of Free 2 Teach to ensure every child, regardless of economic background, has the tools they need to succeed.
Volunteers give their time and energy to ensure that donations are sorted and organized and ready for teacher shoppers. The organization has provided more than $14.7 million in supplies through its model of empowering teachers and school staff year-round to reach their students.
Teachers in Limestone County and Madison County’s five public school systems can schedule their shop by visiting www.free2teach.org/teacher.
