Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley breaks ground in new territory

ATHENS – Habitat for Humanity, welcome to Limestone County.

For the first time since being established in 1987, Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley is beginning construction of its first home in the former territory that was named after the rock that was found aplenty in the area. And there’s a party being throwing to highlight the happening.

The Habitat for Humanity affiliate serves the counties of Madison, Limestone and Jackson. Limestone County was added to the River Valley chapter in 2022.

To toast the occasion, Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley will host a celebratory event Saturday from 8:30-9 a.m. at the site of the future home: 532 Browns Ferry St., Athens. All churches, elected officials, interested businesses and potential volunteers are invited to attend.

Since Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley was established, it has partnered with more than 330 families to help them realize their dream of affordable homeownership. Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
