A hometown shave ice and ice cream shop inspired by a trip to Hawaii has earned statewide recognition.

Oliwia’s Shave Ice & Ice Cream in downtown Hartselle was recently voted first place in the Ice Cream Parlors category in the 2026 Best of Alabama awards presented by the Guide to Alabama.

The locally owned business, located on Railroad Street, is known for its Hawaiian-style shave ice topped with sweetened condensed milk and served over a scoop of ice cream, along with a rotating selection of homemade ice cream flavors crafted in-house.

Owner Olivia Littrell Studdard said the recognition is especially meaningful because of the support she has received from the local community.

“This recognition means a great deal to me, and I’m incredibly grateful for my community’s support,” Studdard said.

The award marks another milestone for the business, which Studdard opened in her hometown in 2019 after being inspired by a visit to Hawaii. She launched the shop at age 20 and has since grown it from serving commercially produced ice cream to creating her own homemade flavors.

Today, customers can find rotating specialty flavors such as Strawberry Pretzel Salad and Ooey Gooey Butter Cake alongside the shop’s signature shave ice offerings.

The downtown Hartselle business has built a loyal following by combining a unique Hawaiian-inspired concept with homemade desserts and a family-friendly atmosphere.

The Best of Alabama awards recognize businesses across the state in a variety of categories, with winners selected through public voting.

Oliwia’s Shave Ice & Ice Cream is located at 115 Railroad St. SW in downtown Hartselle and is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
