Travelers flying through Huntsville International Airport now have three more dining options with the opening of new restaurants in the terminal.
Rocket City Bar & Grill, Rocket City Express and Everbowl officially opened Tuesday as part of the airport’s ongoing Refresh Project. The additions complete the food and beverage phase of the renovation effort and bring a mix of full-service dining, grab-and-go meals and healthier options to passengers.
Located between Gates 3 and 5, the new dining area features table seating, bar seating, charging ports and views of the airfield. Travelers can eat in the concourse or take food with them to their gate.
Rocket City Bar & Grill offers Southern-inspired menu items such as Conecuh sausage, smash burgers and barbecue pulled pork sandwiches. Rocket City Express focuses on convenience, offering food designed for travelers who need something quick before boarding.
Mary Swanstrom, marketing and public relations manager for Huntsville International Airport, said passenger feedback helped shape the new dining lineup. Along with quick-service options, travelers had also expressed interest in healthier food choices.
That demand helped bring Everbowl to the airport. The San Diego based restaurant specializes in açaí bowls, smoothies and other fresh offerings and marks the company’s first airport location.
“Huntsville is our first airport location. We’re so excited to be working with the Tailwind Hospitality team to bring craft superfood to Rocket City,” said a member of Everbowl’s corporate team.
The representative said the company sees airports as an opportunity to provide travelers with a healthier alternative to traditional airport food and noted that the bowls travel well, making them easy to take on a flight.
Airport officials say the restaurant openings are part of a larger effort to modernize the terminal and create an experience that reflects the Huntsville community.
“For many visitors, our terminal is their first introduction to Huntsville,” said Joey Ceci, chair of the Port of Huntsville Board. “As one of the fastest growing and most innovative communities in the nation, Huntsville should have an airport that reflects the energy, progress and hospitality that define our region.”
Additional upgrades are already on the way. Swanstrom said new retail space is expected to open in August or September and noted the strong response to the airport’s Starbucks location.
“These new spaces represent another important step in the continued transformation of our terminal,” said Butch Roberts, CEO of Huntsville International Airport. “We encourage everyone flying through HSV to arrive early, stop by the new restaurants and enjoy everything they have to offer.”
