Huntsville Parks & Rec offers jumpstart on summer activities, events

HUNTSVILLE – The calendar tells us it’s spring, which lasts for another six-plus weeks.

The folks at the City of Huntsville Parks & Recreation Department, however, are prepared for the change in seasons. This year’s “Summer Program Guide” is not just ready for viewing, some of the activities contained therein have started.

COHPAR offers year-round activities and programs at more than 60 public parks, 15 recreation centers and six sports complexes. Seasonal program guides offer a glimpse at programs, classes and activities to keep citizens moving all year long.

The guide features more than 100 free activities, workshops and special events that promise fun in the sun and cool opportunities to chill out.

“We’re committed to ensuring a vibrant and active summer for all residents, no matter your age,” said Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett. “Our dedicated staff members are highly trained and are eager to provide engaging events and programs, most of which are offered at no cost.”

From athletic offerings to Zumba sessions, a variety of activities are available.

Love nature and the outdoors? Explore mountain bike rides tailored for beginners and intermediate riders.

Budding artists can unlock their creativity through art and sewing classes.

The guide also features details about upcoming special events. From youth fishing rodeos to celebratory festivals honoring fathers, the summer calendar is filled with opportunities for family fun.
