Madison hosts Star-Spangled Celebration, Battle of the Paddle

MADISON – Madison picklers are practicing their chop and slice in preparation for the second annual Battle of the Paddle pickleball tournament.

The tournament sponsored by Madison Parks and Recreation is 8 a.m. Monday in Dublin Park. It will herald the Star-Spangled Celebration at 5 p.m.

The round-robin style pickleball tournament features 12 divisions and includes men’s, women’s and mixed doubles for ages 49 and below and ages 50 and above in two skill levels: 2.0-3.0 and 3.5-5.0.

Every team is guaranteed a minimum of three games with prizes awarded for first and second place in each division.

The Star-Spangled Celebration will feature live music, inflatables and food trucks.

Parking will be at Bob Jones High School with a free shuttle service beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The festivities end in the rockets’ red glare of fireworks.
