The public is invited, even encouraged to drop by the first community-based planning effort to shape the future of the City of Madison through an update to the city’s Comprehensive Plan. Known as “Madison On Track 2045,” there will be a brief presentation followed by an interactive mapping exercise in the main lobby of City Hall at 100 Hughes Road, Wednesday, February 2, from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m.
Madison on Track 2045 is a policy document used by city leaders, developers, business owners, and citizens to make decisions about future growth, development, policy, and capital improvements. Its main objective is to engage the public in the creation of an updated vision for growth, development and re-development in Madison.
More than just a document however, it will serve as a vision for the city developed by the community, for the community, and based on community-wide values and inputs.
Comprehensive plans, also known as Master Plans or General Plans, help decision-makers build and maintain cities. Madison on Track 2045 is a foundational document that serves as the research, diagnostic, and visioning effort underlying the rest of the plan. It will help the City plan strategically for short and long-term growth, and to make decisions based on sound information, core values, and agreed-upon goals, strategies, and priorities.
It is enabled by Alabama statute and will help Madison keep their perspective as the city moves into the future toward 2045.
