A Discovery Middle School teacher was arrested Monday on a felony charge stemming from a joint investigation into alleged inappropriate contact with a student, the Madison Police Department announced.
Gilford “Gil” Kibler Jr. was booked into the Madison County Jail on one count of school employee sexual contact with a student under the age of 19, according to jail records. Bond was set at $20,000.
MPD said the case was worked in partnership with Madison City Schools and resulted in a felony arrest. Investigators released no further details about the student, citing the victim’s age.
Kibler taught in Career and Technical Education at Discovery Middle, according to his now-deactivated district profile. According to records, he received a professional teaching certificate for grades 6-12 in the Career Technologies specialty in late 2025, after a criminal background check earlier that year came back clean. He was previously listed in good standing as a teacher in Texas.
Madison City Schools said Kibler has been placed on administrative leave and is barred from any district property or school-sponsored event while the investigation continues.
The district statement said student safety is its highest priority and pledged full cooperation with police, and it encouraged anyone with information to contact MPD directly:
“The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. We are aware that on Monday, April 27, the Madison Police Department arrested Gil Kibler, a teacher at Discovery Middle School, on charges related to a school employee having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19 years,” Dr. Ed Nichols, Superintendent, Madison City Schools wrote.
“Mr. Kibler has been immediately placed on administrative leave and is prohibited from entering any Madison City Schools property or participating in any school-sponsored activities while this matter is under investigation. We are working closely and fully cooperating with the Madison Police Department as they continue their investigation.
We understand that this situation is deeply concerning to our families. We encourage any student or parent with information to assist the investigation to contact the Madison Police Department.
We remain committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students.”
Kibler remained at the Madison County Jail pending bond as of Monday afternoon. Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the Madison Police Department.
