North AlabamaWorks names Madison resident board chair

MUSCLE SHOALS – There’s a new chair at North AlabamaWorks, and the nonprofit organization didn’t go far from its headquarters to find him.

Jason Pickering of Mazda Toyota Manufacturing was tabbed by North AlabamaWorks, the Regional Workforce Council of North Alabama.

Pickering has served on the NAW Board since 2022 and assumes leadership following the recent retirement of Chair Melinda Weaver of Alabama Power.

“I’m excited to take on this new role as chair of North AlabamaWorks,” Pickering said in a statement. “I’m continually impressed by NAW’s commitment to create opportunities in North Alabama for those who want to learn, create, and grow our workforce. I am proud to represent this council of outstanding contributors and this vital workforce partner.”

Pickering joined MTM in 2022 as the manager for Human Resources Development and Corporate Administration, where he was responsible for developing talent within the company and driving a successful strategic vision.

In 2023, he was promoted to general manager, Administration and added responsibility for Safety, Security, and Environmental as well as Accounting and Finance. Prior to joining MTM, Jason held various executive and operational leadership positions with companies such as BASF and Pratt & Whitney.

Pickering served eight years in the Army Reserve, received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, and holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master’s in business administration from Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business.

He lives in Madison with his wife and four sons.

“North AlabamaWorks welcomes Jason Pickering’s leadership, and we are grateful for his commitment to North Alabama’s workforce development,” said Stephanie McCulloch, NAW Executive Director. “Jason’s extensive industry experience within the largest city and fastest growing county in the state brings immense insight and a thorough understanding of North Alabama’s industry needs.”

NAW serves Region 1 of Alabama’s Regional Workforce Councils. Region 1 includes the North Alabama counties of Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Morgan, and Winston.

The purpose of the regional workforce development system is to facilitate a comprehensive, coordinated workforce system that supports economic and workforce activities that are business-led and industry-driven.
