One dead, another critically injured following weekend shooting in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville police are investigating a Saturday night shooting that left one man dead and another critically wounded.
The incident happened just before 10 p.m. at the Chevron Food Mart, 3310 Meridian Street, just north of the Alabama A&M campus, according to the HPD Major Crimes Unit.
A Huntsville police officer, patrolling in the 3300 block of Meridian Street, heard multiple gun shots, HPD said in a statement. Several officers responded to the Chevron parking lot and found Damien Obrien Manning, 22, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD was notified by Huntsville Hospital around 10 p.m. Saturday that a second gunshot victim had arrived at the hospital by a personal vehicle. He is on life support and not expected to survive, police said today.
The Major Crimes Unit is investigating several leads but believe several individuals fired shots from opposing sides of the parking lot, putting others in danger.
