A new pickleball tournament aimed at combining competition with community impact is coming to Point Mallard Park later this month.

The Daybreak Paddle Battle, hosted by the Rotary Club of Decatur Daybreak, is scheduled for April 25 at the Jimmy John’s Pickleball Center, a recently opened all-weather facility within the park. Organizers say the one-day event will raise funds for local nonprofits and international humanitarian projects.

Play will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a $50 registration fee for tournament participants. Spectators can attend for free. Register here.

Proceeds from the event will support a range of community initiatives, including Decatur Youth Services, Reading Is Fundamental, Barrels of Love and the Alabama Center for the Arts. Funds will also go toward international clean water and sanitation projects supported by Rotary.

Organizers say the event is designed to appeal to both competitive players and casual participants, with medal play, player swag and awards ceremonies planned throughout the day.

In addition to matches on the courts, attendees can expect food trucks, vendors and community booths, creating a festival-like atmosphere.

The tournament will be held rain or shine, taking advantage of the facility’s all-weather courts.

Event organizers are also seeking volunteers to assist with registration, court operations and event setup, as well as sponsors to support the fundraiser.

Rotary leaders say events like Paddle Battle play a key role in funding programs that support youth services, literacy initiatives and access to clean water both locally and abroad.
