Radiance welcomed more than 725 people at Wednesday’s Kickoff Dinner with guest speaker, LSU head women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey. The event started the  countdown clock to the 46th Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl and Radiance Technologies Innovation Bowl celebration.

The Innovation Bowl is a yearlong technology initiative, an outreach to the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers with a mission to advance STEM learning.

“We have an opportunity to introduce a technology topic and merge it with a social imperative too with the Radiance Technologies Innovation Bowl,” said Radiance Technologies CEO Bill Bailey. “In every way, there is the alignment of business, the military, outreach and branding with this exciting opportunity.”

Schools compete for a $25,000 grand prize by researching and developing innovative approaches. The challenge is “How Can Geospatial Intelligence Data be Used to Monitor, Assess, and Predict the Impact of Climate Change”?

After a two-step process of evaluating submissions, Radiance scientists and researchers will pick three finalists.

The winners will be announced Dec. 23 at the 46th Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. The match-up will pit Army against a bowl-eligible team from the American Athletic Conference.

According to the foundation, the Radiance Technologies Innovation Bowl is growing leaders who will encourage real-world experience and creativity to solve problems. It is also a celebration of innovation and technology.

The yearlong competition continues into the spring when the three finalist teams further develop their ideas. The teams will use prototypes, models and simulation or experimentation then present their findings to an expert panel.

From those three live presentations, the winning team will be selected and awarded the $25,000 grand prize.
