Verus Research LLC has secured a nearly $95 million U.S. Air Force contract to support advanced laser research that will help improve the military’s testing and analysis capabilities.
A subsidiary of Huntsville-based Radiance Technologies, Verus Research, was awarded a cost-plus-fixed-fee contract with a ceiling value of $94.95 million to conduct laser effects and analysis research, according to a Department of Defense contract announcement.
The work will provide technical expertise supporting the development of test and data analysis capabilities for the Air Force Research Laboratory. The contract includes research related to laser effects, with work to be performed at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico through June 25, 2031.
The Air Force received two proposals through a competitive acquisition process. An initial $2.75 million in fiscal 2026 research, development, test and evaluation funding was obligated at the time of award.
The contract adds to Radiance Technologies’ growing portfolio following its acquisition last year of Verus Research, a New Mexico-based research and development company specializing in high-power microwaves, laser systems, radio frequency communications, nuclear survivability and advanced electromagnetic technologies.
Radiance announced the acquisition in June 2025, saying it would expand the Huntsville company’s capabilities in directed energy, cybersecurity, hypersonics, artificial intelligence and other advanced defense technologies.
At the time, Radiance CEO Bill Bailey said the acquisition represented another investment in the company’s future and its ability to serve Department of Defense customers.
“By joining forces with Verus Research, we add richer capability in a range of cutting-edge defense technologies while fostering our employee-ownership culture,” Bailey said.
While Verus continues operating from its headquarters in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the company also maintains a Huntsville office, where engineers support advanced defense programs involving laser effects, computational electromagnetics, radio frequency systems and other high-technology research.
The Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland Air Force Base serves as the contracting activity for the new award.
