HUNTSVILLE – A book published three decades ago, followed by a popular screen version, about a romance unfolding in a real life location tells the story of a fictional romance.
“The Bridges of Madison County,” a novel written by Robert James Waller, was hatched while the author was taking photos along the Mississippi River in Iowa.
In this account of Madison County bridges, however, north Alabama provides the setting. And while the Hollywood treatment of the story starred Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep, this production features county crew members with cameos by the Flint and Paint Rock rivers.
Starting Tuesday, Public Works crews will perform bridge inspections until Friday from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. each day at different locations across the county, weather permitting. Motorists should proceed with caution at these locations and expect delays since traffic will be down to one lane while the inspections are underway.
