HUNTSVILLE – More than two dozen guests gathered Monday at Baker & Able, the rooftop bar at 106 Jefferson, to watch the modernized version of the old classic “Let’s Make a Deal” game show.

No, it wasn’t to participate as “At-Homies” on the live show. It was to watch someone win a trip to Space Camp and stay at the downtown Huntsville hotel.

Hosted by singer/comedian Wayne Brady, “Let’s Make a Deal” returned to the air with new games and a new format in 2019. The show adjusted for the pandemic in 2020, introducing two windows of nine “At-Homies” who also compete for prizes or the occasional dud.

And, of course, there are also players in the studio wearing the same crazy costumes they wore on the original version of the show with Monty Hall.

The hour was filled with laughter and anticipation, as no one at Space Camp or at “106 J” knew where in the show the trip was hidden.

The Huntsville excursion turned out to be behind Door No. 3, revealed as the Big Deal of the Day at the end of the show. The winner was a player named Mubashik, dressed as Captain Hook, complete with hand hook.

According to hotel manager Jeremy Sadler, providing their portion of the package was coordinated by their 106 J marketing team.

“The partnership with a lot of people in this room have helped make this a great prize package for our city from airline tickets to experiences within the city,” said Sadler. “We thank you for your participation and for being here to watch the show with us.”

When describing Mubashik’s winnings, images of the elegant 106 Jefferson Hotel, the Saturn V rocket, an aerial shot of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, the downtown Huntsville Depot and a beautiful shot of downtown Huntsville as Big Spring Park flashed on the screen giving Huntsville exposure to a national audience.

The Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau partnered with 106 Jefferson to bring people together to watch the show at 106 J.

“Teamwork really makes the dream work,” said Charles Winters, executive vice president of marketing at the bureau. “We appreciate everyone coming to watch and remember, this is hashtag #iHeartHsv … just one more way we show how we love the community.”
