A Walker County man with multiple prior felony convictions has been indicted on federal charges after prosecutors say he stole 16 firearms from a licensed firearms dealer in Decatur and transported a stolen vehicle across state lines.

U.S. Attorney Phillip W. Williams Jr. announced Monday that a federal grand jury has returned a four-count indictment against Colton McCoy Tubbs, 35, of Oakman.

According to the indictment, Tubbs is charged with theft of firearms from a licensed dealer, possession of stolen firearms, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle.

The indictment alleges that on Feb. 17, 2026, Tubbs stole 14 pistols and two rifles from Mid-City Pawn in Decatur. Authorities further allege that the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen in Tennessee earlier that same day.

Court records cited in the indictment state that Tubbs was prohibited from possessing firearms because of three prior felony convictions between 2022 and 2025. According to federal authorities, two of those convictions occurred in Walker County Circuit Court and one occurred in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Decatur Police Department and the Cullman Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara M. Judah is prosecuting the case.

An indictment contains allegations only. Tubbs is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
